McDermott post match interview

26/4/2014

Leeds boss Brian McDermott spoke after his sides 3-1 win over Birmingham. Firstly, he said that youngster Alex Mowatt has jarred his knee and will be assessed on Monday. McDermott went on to say he was extremely proud of the players and hopes they would get the credit that they deserved.

He said the hard work was done in the first half and that allowed them to play in the second.

He wanted them to play effective football with an end product rather than possession football like we did at Nottingham Forest.

He mentioned Carbone turning up, but didn't make a comment-said it is what it is and turned the conversation back to the football...didn't sound impressed at all...

Also said he's unsure when he will sit down with Cellino-just said he wants to concentrate on the next game. He said he has loved every second of been the Leeds manager, and he's proud to be Leeds united manager.

He doesn't sound like he's expecting to stay..

Leeds line up as follows for today's home game against Nottingham Forest:

Butland, Lees, Pearce, Wootton, Warnock, Tonge, Brown, Austin, Murphy, McCormack, Hunt.

Looks to be back to a 4-4-2 with Hunt in place of Smith, and Austin returning in place of Zaliukas.

McDermott press conference

12/4/2014

Leeds boss Brian McDermott spoke with the press following The 2-0 win over Blackpool. He said he had a 3 hour chat with new owner Massimo Cellino on Thursday and is delighted that he is in charge. He says he has been worries for the last 3 months about where the club was going, and this is a new beginning.

He said they worked on getting Murphy ahead of the strikers in training on Thursday as we offered no threat against Watford last time out.

He says it won't be full with Cellino in charge, as he's a man who likes a bit of fun!!

Leeds 2 Blackpool 0 - report

12/4/2014

Leeds returned to winning ways with a much improved performance at Elland Road. In a match between two teams hopelessly out of form, it was the home team that came away with the spoils.

Lu ke Murphy was the first man with a chance-denied by a last ditch tackle, but the former Crewe midfielder wasn't to be denied for long-midway through the half finishing well from McCormacks pass. Blackpool had their chances, but it was Leeds who deservedly led at the break.

The second half saw Leeds continue to press-McCormack going close, before Murphy grabbed his second of the game, sinking home after Noel Hunt's flick on.

The double were Murphys first goal since the opening day of the season when he scored a last minute winner against Brighton, and it was by some distance his best Leeds performance so far-showing why The Whites paid £1 million for him last summer.

With a 2 goal cushion, there was only one winner, as the visitors looked short on confidence, and desperately seeking the end of the season.

Three big points today, and a much improved performance, but this needs to be matched for the remaining few games..

Leeds 1 Blackpool 0 half time report

12/4/2014

Leeds have impressed in the first half against a poor Blackpool side. The two clubs have the poorest recent form, but it's Leeds who have impressed so far.

Leeds lined up with 3 centre backs, and the formation has worked well. The home side went closest to taking the lead, a last ditch tackle denying Luke Murphy after good play from Ross McCormack. The former Crewe pla yer wasn't to be denied for long though, finishing well after more good build up play from Matt Smith and McCormack. It was Murphys first goal for Leeds since his last minute winner against Brigjton on the opening day. He has a more advanced role and has had his best game for a long time.

Leeds have dominated the game, but need to be wary of Blackpool who had an impressive 10 minute spell when they could and perhaps should have levelled.

Half time is 1-0, and Leeds will be hoping to carry on where they left off..
