Leeds-I’ve never been prouder

17/5/2019

As the disappointment of Wednesday fades, I’ve realised that I don’t think I have ever been prouder of my club than I am right now. Whilst I know we all wanted to be in the Premier League, but would any of us be disappointed with another season like this one (albeit with a different ending)? It has been magnificent. Superb football, sell out crowds and more importantly, the city united firmly behind the team. There has been a massive cultural change at the club, and for that we have to thank Radrizani, Orta and Bielsa. I’ve seen our owner get some stick, but, by and large he has done fantastic for this club. Not everything has worked and I’m sure he’d do some things differently, but he has the club at heart-same for Orta who has gone up hugely in my estimations. Finally, Bielsa.. what a man. He is a complete one off, an enigma and a genius. It is absolutely imperative that he stays..
Onto the team-again, I’ve seen some players get some right stick on social media, but they have played way above their level. They’ve bought in to what Bielsa has asked and I cannot fault one player for their effort. Every one, irrespective of ability has given it a go and should be proud of what they have done. No complaints in the media if left out, no moans about training or playing out of position, they’ve just got on with it-it’s a long time since a squad has been this together.

How many messages have you had on social media? I’ve had hundreds-from fans desperately celebrating our failings. Bottled it again, Falling apart, Gifs, cheats, scum.. the list goes on. Why? Cos we’re Leeds, cos we’re relevant, cos we’re hated.. and I love it..

Hurt, but let’s celebrate a fantastic season

16/5/2019

So, the hurt of last night will take some time to heal, but am going to remain positive. The firs thing we must do to build on this season, is ensure that Bielsa stays. After that, invest in the squad. Whether we can do that without selling players like Phillips will be telling. Keep the nucleus of this squad, clear out some deadwood and buy 3 or 4 quality players and we can go forward. This season has been by far the best in a long, long time. If we have a repeat of this one, I can’t be unhappy. Do I want to be in the Premiership? Of course. However, would I rather have a season like Huddersfield had or we’ve just had? I’d take ours every single time… let Bielsa continue to grow this squad – get the right players in and there is no reason why we can’t go again… keep the faith… #mot #lufc

Bielsa masterclass gives Leeds edge over Derby

13/5/2019

Picture
Part one of (hopefully) 3 done, but there is plenty of hard work ahead. On Saturday, Marcelo Bielsa gave a bit of a coaching masterclass in a performance that was a throwback to some of the early season from. Derby couldn’t cope with the Leeds press and the tweaks on formation as Bielsa used all his experience to find a way to stop Derby’s youthful enthusiasm. He really is close to a genius. Whilst, to the casual observer we play the same style game after game, it is the attention to detail and slight amendments per game that set Bielsa apart. Against Villa, he used Phillips to nullify the threat of Grealish, almost man marking him out of the game – against Derby he employed Forshaw (then the very impressive Shakleton) in a very effective dual role to support Phillips or Klich, depending where the ball was. Equally impressive were the full backs – the more Dallas and Ayling pressed on, the more wary the Derby full backs were to venture forward.
However, if this last week has shown us anything (and it couldn’t have come at a better time for us), it’s that anything is possible. Bielsa will be using the recent Champions League results to show that there is still everything to play for. The loss against Wigan a few weeks ago which effectively finished our automatic play off hopes, will also be burned into the brains of the players – don’t take anything for granted.
So, onto Wednesday, and Leeds could find themselves without 5 first team players (Alioski, Pontus, Roberts, Forshaw and Douglas), but will welcome back Bamford to the bench. I would expect Derby to take a chance – whatever Lampard has tried so far has failed, so he could well go for something completely different – either 5 at the back or possibly 2 up front. In our position, a lot of teams wouldn’t know whether to stick or twist – hold on to what we’ve got or go and kill the game – Bielsa only knows one way and if Derby pile forward and don’t get it right, and we are at the top of our form, it will play right into our hands…
Be prepared for an amazing atmosphere and hopefully a win to take us to Wembley..
