The signing of Augustin today is a massive show of intent from the Leeds board. With Angus’ infamous ‘we’re not dicking around with the playoffs’ hanging in the air, this signing is the first real sign that we’re not. Make no mistake – Augustin can play. He looks to have everything needed to fit into a Bielsa team. He is quick, direct, can score, and, just as importantly, can work. The 22 year could end up being our record signing – a permanent fee (including the loan amount) would be around !9m- eclipsing the £18m we paid for Rio Ferdinand a lifetime ago.
With Ian Poveda signed last week, these two players add the ‘x-factor’ – something we have seriously missed. With teams sitting so deep against us and trying to close down the space, we only have really had Hernandez that could produce a moment of magic. The rest of the team are all about patterns, work, processes etc. You sometimes need that bit of mystery, something unpredictable, and these 2 signings have exactly that.
This is it now – our real shot at the Premiership.. expecting Poveda to be on the bench tomorrow night, whilst Augustin is more likely to be involved at the weekend…
