Huddersfield v Leeds United - Match Preview

24/10/2013

Six days after Leeds United produced their performance of the season so far, they make the short trip to local rivals, Huddersfield for this 12:30pm kick off on Saturday.

For Huddersfield, it's the big match of their season and fans have even been printing and displaying posters around the town in preparation for the 'Big Game'. The view of Leeds fans is that it is still frustrating we are playing the likes of Huddersfield, rather than back playing Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea!

Leeds hit form last week, but it remains to be seen if that was a one off, or something more sustainable.  McDermott switched to a 5-3-2/3-5-2 formation and will stick to it tomorrow, most likely with the same starting eleven, although loan signing, Dextor Blackstock is expected to be named on the bench.  Matt Smith will keep his place after an impressive first start and two well taken goals.

Captain Rudolph Austin produced an inspired performance and will be critical if Leeds are to continue where they left off against Birmingham.

Huddersfield meanwhile are struggling this season, drawing five and losing four of their opening twelve games.  Just three wins leaves them in 14th place in the table and they haven't won a game since mid-September.  Leading scorer, Jason Vaughan starts the first of a three match suspension which is not going to help their cause.

We're going for a 2-0 Leeds victory!

Leeds United v Birmingham - Match Preview

16/10/2013

After a weekend off for International matches, it's back to the Championship, although Leeds fans have an extra day to wait for this Sunday televised fixture.  Birmingham City will be making the trip up the M42/M1 in this mid-table clash
The Teams
Leeds United
Leeds will be hoping the break has given them the opportunity to re-group and re-focus after a miserable Autumn to date.  After a positive start to the season, Leeds lost away to Reading back on the 18th September, and have only managed one win since then, losing three more times in the League and again to Newcastle in the League cup.

Boss McDermott has kept faith with Noel Hunt up front so far, but the player has yet to settle and find his form in the team and fans are just starting to scratch their heads a little.

Leeds do need to strengthen but no new faces have appeared at the club over the past few weeks.

Current Position:  14th (14 pts)
Key Man: Ross McCormack
Birmingham City
If Leeds United are having a disappointing season, they need look no further than Birmingham City for how it could be worse.  Birmingham had a poor start in the early games, although recent performances have shown signs of improvement, noticeably a 4-0 victory of Millwall at the start of the month, but they crumbled against Bolton last time out to give Jermaine Beckford's new club their first victory.

Boss Lee Clarke will be hoping they find the form they showed to knock holders, Swansea City out of the League cup back in September -  albeit against a weakened side

Current Position:  19th (10 pts)
Key Man:   Jesse Lingard (on loan)
