Cellino on the verge of losing the fans

27/10/2014

With Leeds on the verge of officially appointing Neil Redfearn as manager, we’ve moved into a critical time for Chairman/president, Massimo Cellino.  The eccentric Italian has bought himself a huge amount of goodwill by ridding the club of GFH, and bringing in young ambitious players, who, for the most part, can play a bit.  He made the right noises from the outset – buying back Elland Road and talk of taking the club back to the Premiership.

However, the support is seemingly splitting.  He will have technically had 5 managers in the space of 18 games (McDermott last game of last season, Hockaday 6 games, Redfearn 4 games, Milanic 6 games, Redfearn at Cardiff), which is ridiculous.

If Redfearn is not backed – not financially, but properly backed, with support, and by letting him do things his way, he’ll start to have a problem.  If he doesn’t come up with the proposed Elland Road buy back next month, he’ll have another one.

At the moment, I fear for my club.  Cellino has a massive opportunity to get this right.  He seems to get half way there, then screws things up with some baffling decisions.  There is no doubt at all that the man knows his stuff.  He is a real football man, with a huge passion for the game, and particularly us – however, this is also his downfall.  He gets involved in far too much, interviews he doesn’t need to give, team changes that should be nothing to do with him etc.  He micro manages to a ridiculous level.

The best thing he can do now is let Redfearn have a real run.  To take a step back and just let him go with it.  Pick the team, play it is own way – succeed or fail on his own.  If Redfearn is sacked after a half dozen games or so, the tide will turn, and Cellino might once again be escaping an Elland Road car park via a taxi.

Get it right Massimo, and you will be adored for a long, long time – November is going to be a massive month for him, and the club.

Oh please can we stop going on and on about Bates we are where we are so let's move on. However, it might be interesting to compare the current Chelsea Chairman to our President.

On the plus side ours, as the article states has said will use the money from the sale of McCormack to buy back Elland Road whilst theirs wanted to move from their ground.

On the down side their Chairman is worth many billions, ours a few hundred million, so theirs just keeps throwing money at the club ours looks to do things on the cheap (in fairness to him run it properly).
The Chelsea chairman invests in the best staff and players and lets the manager get on with it although he can be critical and at the end of the season might change direction. Ours believes he is the only one who can make a decision, acquires staff on the cheap and gets what he pays for and changes every 6 games.
Their chairman sits in the stand and watches ours apparently phones up during the match and demands substitutions, it is like he is playing Player Manager with "our" club.

I think the article is spot on although I think we have to wait a little longer than November, until then I agree with Jonny Giles.

Spot on. I have been saying this for weeks. Cellino MUST stop interfering on the football side, passionate as he is. He may know Italian football, but he knows very little about the English game and our ideology. Redfearn must be given a clear hand and the rest of the season. Cellino must put his money where his mouth is, buy back the ground, put the club on a sound financial basis and make funds available to strengthen the sqaud.
All you out there calling for Celinos head are morons. He saved this club from oblivion, who the hell is going to come in if he goes for crying out loud. You lot will be the same morons calling for Redfearns head the first time things go wrong. Just get behind the club, get behind team and start showing the players a bit of respect. They deserve better than this, if you don't, you can bet they will want out.
