Will fans accept changes at Elland Road?

10/5/2014

With sweeping changes set to rock the club in the coming weeks, with reports that up to 70 employees are set to be axed by Massimo Cellino it remains to be seen how the fans will respond and will the Italian owner receive the backing he needs?

The Daily Star (Yeah - we know!) are reporting that fans will be furious to see Leeds united legends such as Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer and Dominic Matteo being forced to leave the club, but we have a different take.
Leeds United fans are sick of it all - sick of the last ten years, sick of the poor performances, sick of the off-the-field problems and sick of the fact the club has not moved one step forward in that time.

Cellino may just be the man to rid the club of the problems once and for all and put us on to a firm footing for the future.  That is not to say any one individual associated with the club is the current cause, but as a collective, everyone associated to the club at the moment is part of the problem, directly or indirectly!

Speaking to fans as we do every day, the general swell of opinion is that whatever is need, must be done, and if that means Leeds United legends have to make way for a new regime, then so be it.  Fans seem prepared to accept that the manager, the coaching staff and the vast majority of the players may have to depart if the club is going to start again.

Only the unforced sale of Ross McCormack and Sam Byram, and perhaps Alex Mowatt would upset the fans, who see these three players as an essential part of the future, and even those would be accepted if their sale was justified and real focus (and investment) was placed around team rebuilding.

Something is rotten at Leeds United, and has been for a long time, and sometimes when you have to dig out what is rotten, you have to sustain some damage along the way.  The Leeds United fans appreciate this better than most and as long as people are treated in a fair and perhaps more importantly, a respectful way, then there is no fanbase in the country that is more ready to adopt change than the Elland Road faithfull!

Are you ready for change?  Would you be outraged if some people had to leave the club?   Add your comments below or sign up and join us on the Unofficial Leeds United Messageboard - It's quick, free and easy to join.

Personally I think Mr. Cellino has not even started yet! So it will be busy summer before season starts in shape of breaking news.

From his background MC "from rag to riches" well he is not afraid to get his hands dirty while digging the dirt from Bates/GFH cabinets.

Do it Mr C.
The mans paid his money.
Leeds needs an over-haul, on its way back to the top.
Legends will still remain legends to the fans.
Eddie Gray is our finest.

Yes.. change is required.. Leeds've been stagnant fromn top to bottom for too long.. they need a massive shake up

Cellino has taken the gamble of pumping millions in just to keep us afloat (its seems to be agreed that was the situation). I don't think you can argue if he looks to avoid having to do it again..... its simple maths no premier league for the last 10 years (= no parachute payments) minus an enormous squad (by championship standards) all on far too much money.

You need a smaller settled squad - not loan players and not players coming to the end of there careers..........

The very fact he has kept a club like Cagliari in Seri A would in my eyes be testament to the fact that he knows what he is doing.

Despite a few legacy issues!! he is a football man (what a nice change that is) - change is always difficult but necessary if your going to move forward, based on the last 10 years its imperative that we change!

We have been a basket of goods for the last two owners..... nothing more than a commodity with the aim of total profit first and football last....... now we have a leader (assuming he stays out of bother).

I am sure Dom, Eddie and Peter will happily continue to watch the team as paying guests for the overall benefit of Leeds United.

Legends they are but no one is bigger than Leeds United

Yeah, agree with most, clean out needed from top to bottom.
With respect to Peter,Andy and co, the old guard needs to move over for new blood and ideas, like said, the club has got stuck in a time warp, and lost touch with the times.
When you look around Elland Rd, even with the new stand we never needed at this point, the whole ground is starting to look tired and out of date.
A new stadium is a must in the next 15 yrs.

No great loss losing Gray and Lorimer they were both great players for the club, but Lorimer seems to always like whoever takes charge and never takes sides,Eddie always seems to be doom and gloom I think if we won the premier league he would still have something negative to say,we need people who have positive thoughts and want to push the club forward to where it should be

Peter lost his legendary tag years ago when he sadly sucked up to Bates et al; Eddie the greatest ever Leeds player almost went the same way with his fence sitting but just regains some respect and Dom is just not a legend full stop! They have all been in the pay of Leeds for years and the percentage of my season ticket money over the past 32 years given to them has to now stop.
Enough is enough the fans have propped up this stagnant cess pool for long enough; can't believe Lorimer hasn't been lunched.
Let's see how 'Leeds' they really are when they have to pay like the rest of us. Outraged no; delighted completely.

The truth is legends will always be legends, time to let a new legend rise and bring Leeds United with it...of cause legend status is earnt not given so it's time to give Cellino a chance to earn his way into the fans hearts and minds

He has to be ruthless and he will be, selling Cagliari will be another positive , he will concentrate on Leeds and the club will benefit from that, we just might see LEEDS competitive again both as a business and a football Team, exciting in it .....

IT WILL BE ALL WHITE ON THE NIGHT

It is high time someone like Cellino got the bull by the horns and gave the bloody thing a good old shake. Do we need Gray, Lorimer and Matteo as paid ambassadors? I think most fans think not.
The playing squad needs to be streamlined and quality take the place of unnecessary quantity. I would ship out 23 and bring in a mere 7.
Out : Kenny, Ashdown, Cairns, Peltier, Wootton, Zaliukas, Killock, L. Turner, Warnock, Drury, Pugh, Brown, Green, Tonge, Austin, Lenighan, N. Turner, Norris, Diouf, Aribiyi, Hunt, Varney, Morrison

In: (e.g.) Daniel Bentley (Southend), Michael Turner (Norwich), Danilo Avelar, Sebastian Eriksson & Victor Ibarbo (Cagliari), Tommy Rowe (Peterboro) & Callum Wilson (Coventry)

Pace and youth and with a much trimmed squad opportunities for messrs Dawson, Thompson, Coker, Walters to shine.

Treat BM with respect or lose your own respect forever. That is what Inwould say to Cellino. The second thing is that he should behave more professionally in his communication with everyone. The language barrier doesn't help, but he should not make public statements about individuals. Finally, improve lines of communication with the manager and involve him in the discussion, planning and changes. If not, do the respectful thing and reach an agreement and pay him what he is owed. At Leeds we do not treat people like shit!

I can accept anything as long as he makes this club better. Number one on my list is we keep Mac. He has not had a chance to prove himself. Although it is very upsetting to lose Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer and Dominic Matteo. Things must move on and the better we do the more we will look to them in the future, A 40 year Leeds fan.

Not had a chance to prove himself? You've got to be kidding me. He has spent more than any manager has had in the last 5 years, he hasn't had a clue how to handle the decent players we have with the exception of McCormack. His team selection and tactics have been the worst I have ever seen from a Leeds manager, his losses have been beyond unacceptable etc,etc... Yes it has been a tough period to be working through but a good manager should motivate and make the right decisions (remember Wise and Poyet). EHD was the best player in the championship 2013-14 and he has failed to handle his situation and get the best out of him. Good young players out on loan but persisted in the crap that wasn't working. Poor investment in players, or just not getting the best out of them. Naive tactics in many games, ie sheff wed and a believer in his own hype, what's he actually ever done? Inherited a very strong Steve Coppel team and got them up, then got found out and sacked! People go on about him as though he is the second coming, but I'm afraid all he is is the worst manager this club has possibly ever seen. Grayson would have done a far better job in the circumstances, in fact they all would have. Rant over, on and on! :-)
