So plenty of noise around Phillips potentially returning to us in the summer for cut price £20million. Personally, much as I love Kalvin and his Leeds roots, this is a step backwards, even at £10million it would be a major risk. Failed to impress at Man City, West Ham & even Ipswich. The only possibility that this could happen, is if Rothwell decides to return to Bournemouth, or we go through the stupid Ben White scenario all over again on a transfer fee.
Probably the one that has some mileage is Pascal to Spurs, again that would be fee dependant as we would demand a fairly hefty price. Of course if we manage to fu*k promotion, then he will be gone at a reduced fee.
No doubt more intrigue to come later!
Just to say that this was a post I did about 2/3 weeks ago and only just been approved!
I don't think Elvedi would improve us, Struijk is the best CB in the championship and wanted by Spurs, Rodan was a Spurs player, Ampadu is captain and more than capable to cover, and if Wiegl were to arrive, he can cover CB and DCM, a bit like Guilavogui. Would Elvedi be better than Wober? At €6m compared to Wober's €8m valuation, he's slightly cheaper. Given we have the meanest defence in the championship apart from Burnley, CB is the part of the team I'm least inclined to change. Whereas an attacking midfield, a new striker, a new goalkeeper, Manor Solomon, and a resolution of Firpo's contract are all 'musts' to sort out.
Sorry Smurf but our back line of Bogle, Rodon, Struijk and Firpo are not Prem quality....
However, with 2 tweaks, all of them are! Turn our FBs into wing backs and buy Elvidi for a 3 CB combination.... unfortunately, Farke can't see what I can see and will play a rigid 4-2-3-1 game in, game out.
Wiegle sounds good and add a no10 and guaranteed goalscorer by spending 80m and it's a relatively cheap summer transfer window....8th place and fkn simple
I'm pretty sure the Phillips stories are just stories. Like yourself, I don't think Kalvin would be a good signing. More likely are recent links to German Julian Wiegl. Farke lovese Wiegl, he's managed him twice and gone on record as saying Wiegl would improve any teams he plays for. At a cost of €6m, he would be a very attractive proposition. Midfield is the area I'd like to see most activity. I've still high hopes we can lure Jobe Bellingham.
I'm pretty happy with our defence and would rather keep the current back line,
