Tin hat time....
Gnonto was excellent for us for the first month of getting in the squad but then went missing up until he put in a great cross assist for a goal towards the end of the season.... did he get found out or doubled up on?
We've got numerous wingers including Gnonto, Summerville, Sinesterra, James, Harrison, Costa, Poveda and I'm sure we've got another one who I can't think of.... not Aaronson or someone who can fill in as a winger.
I'd love to somehow keep Sinesterra who'd rip up this division if fit....
Summerville.... as above.
James will be like a new signing as this division is his standard....
Harrison is so inconsistent that I'd probably sell him as we'd get circa 20m....
We need Costa and Poveda off the wage bill as they won't make it with us....
Everyone raves about Gnonto but none of our crap managers seemed to trust him for some reason.... surely better to sell now for 5 times what we bought him if we can keep 3 other quality wingers!?
Tin hat firmly affixed....
So players like we have in our wing / attacking positions are p.ayers who thrive on attacking via either moving onto a forward moving ball (face up towards goal) and one on one attacking from wide in.
Other then under early days Biesla ball we really have not played to their strength. We have then spending a lot of time and energy coming out our own box and or receiving the ball with their back towards goal.
Over the past few season when we have given Harrison (for example) the ball in way we he moves onto the ball and attacks one on one we end up with him looking like a super star where he either provides a great cross or has good shot on goal. This is the same for Sinisterra, Summerville and Gnonto.
Think Gnonto can play anywhere across the front and is at his best when he can float.
Due to boredom I watch a few of our matches again from this season and found Harrison, Summerville, and other attacking players sprinting back to defend faster then our full backs and DCM. Basically wasting their energy and nullifying their effectiveness on the game.
On a side note. Joseph, Perkins, Greenwood, Gelthardt, Rutter are all strikers /Forwards who extremely dangerous and in fact lethal in a front 2. Gelthardt and Greenwood together scored 15 plus each in the u23's. Joseph and Perkins as a front 2 scored 14 plus each and Rutter in Germany was at his best with either goals or assists in a front 2. Dare say that Sinisterra, Summerville and Gnonto would also shine in a front 2.
Is Gnonto good, Yes. Needs hard senior games consistently to develop and show his abilities.
That is my 2 cents...
I think he is decent. Teams did put 2 men on him a lot so that says something.
He will probably go play in Italy and will be irrelevant to us soon. I won't go out of my way to follow his progress.
Pegs in the right shaped holes.
All our managers have wanted Gnonto to do his share of backtracking (which ain't his forte) or they've asked him to be a winger.
I reckon he'd be fantastic in the right system, but that hasn't been and won't be with us.
I see Gnonto more as a second striker rather than a winger. I think he's brilliant and would play him every day of the week.
Sinisterra has indicated he will stay with us and if Summerviole stays, we will have an awesome front line. I don't agree that Harrison is inconsistent but fear he's already gone.
