I will admit that I'm not a great admirer of Maguire, but I cannot understand the England fans jeering and booing him at International matches. I don't have any issues giving him the verbals when he is playing in a Manure shirt, as that is just pure banter, but when he is representing your country the fans should be behind the team regardless. On current form, he probably doesn't merit his selection in the team, but that's down to Southgate not Maguire.
As an ROI supporter for a vast number of years, we have had our fair share of donkeys putting on the green shirt, but I cannot remember a single incident when a player was booed or jeered, everyone got behind the team and accepted what was put on the pitch. Yes, afterwards we would criticise and give our opinions on who should have been left in the changing room or that the manager was pure sh*te, but never whilst the game was in progress.
Maybe our expectations were never quite as high as the England team, so we were more tolerant.
I dont get why LUFC fans get on the back of our players. They never try to fail. Sure some have put in poor performances but does moaning and groaning inspire them to perform better?
Watching England play used to be an occasion - like the Home Internationals - but now it is so boring. Only time I get excited is if we are in the quarters and above of a major tournament.
Far too many games being played with no real meaning.
LUFC - that is all that matters to me! I hate international breaks!!!!
I watched the Portugal v North Macedonia match. Hoped to see Alioski get the better of Portugal, he hasn't changed the little scamp.
Rarely watch England friendlies ( and I've got a huge 3 lions tattoo on my side/ribs) as they are dull and I resent them as it means Leeds aren't playing. They are just nothing games.
I always fully support them at major tournaments and qualifying and it bothers me when we lose.
Friendlies should be played away from Wembley and the entitled supporters. I don't think the booing would happen elsewhere.
playing
I just dont get any fan booing one of their players, i just cant get my head around it.
Why boo?
Whats the point?
What message are you sending by booing?
Im irish i dont give two flying fcks about the english natonal team but i can tell you one thing if Kalvin had to take a penalty to win the WC in a shoot-out i wouldnt boo him. Now if Maguire was taking the penalty and no leeds player was involved in the squad id be praying to god the ball would end up at the corner flag🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Personally i dont see Maguire as anything special tbh. Was he ever worth £65m not in my eyes, but according to transfermarket his market value has nearly halfed in the 3 years, according to current value HM is only worth £36m today, thats some fall from grace considering the guy is still in his twenties and defenders can play well into their mid-thirties and beyond like Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Marcelo will be 34 in 2 months time still playing with Real Madrid, & Giorgio Chiellini is 37 and he too is still playing. These are players well worth the 60m+ price tag but how does Maguire stand up against these types of defenders? very poorly if you ask me.
International friendlies are crap and so boring these days with countless caps given out willy nilly and strongest sides not being played....when I was young I supported Leeds and England EQUALLY.
Last night I watched England muted on the laptop whilst watching 'Four In A Bed' on tv.... lovely little B&B in North Devon if anyone is interested although they had left a little dust in one of the drawers and a smear on the shower screen.
But no, they shouldn't boo Maguire and he hasn't even done that badly in an England shirt. He hasn't done that badly for Mancscum either and his teammates have just been as bad or worse.... he just hasn't played to the high standards he set himself.
Not so passionate about international football as I am about Leeds, but I agree with you.
He's not been good for Manure, but he hasn't played badly for England and he's been a core part of a team that got to a semi final and a final.
If the fans boo Maguire then they should be booing Pickford for the same reasons - and Gareth Bale should be nowhere near the wales team - go figure!
Some people say that fans are entitled to boo - personally I don't get it if you pay to watch a team and you want them to win: what good does it do?
I strongly suspect it's a club tribal thing, which has no place in an international setup. Ask the "golden generation" that got nowhere under Eriksson
