A few of the players looked very leggy towards the last 20 mins, especially Byram. It's a case of managing the returned players and getting them back up to speed. We were definately narrow but did have opportunities to exploit the wide areas and with a bit more crisp passing could have nicked it, but in the end a point is fine and we move on.
Playing Piroe from the start does not work, as he is better as an impact player off the bench, regardless of what he may feel. Joseph is more attacking in style and will put the defenders under enormous pressure.
Tanaka plays better every time I see him and has the ability to create space for himself.
Piroe is highly effective when we have players stretching the defence. He needs that little space to be able to decide which little pocket he slips into. Look at his best game for us and Swansea and you find that when the offence is spread out he will start high engaging 1 CB and then try and drag said CB away. He the slip into that little hole between CB's, or between FB and CB or even just behind CB. Because we play so narrow the only way to find the same space means he is basically having to become a midfielder. Honestly it is the same for Joseph.
Played to narrow again with Gnonto, Byram, Bogle and James all contently play only as wide as the 18 yard box effectively crowding the middle of the pitch. Basically it gave us Piroe, Aarronson,, Gnonto, James, Byram, Bogle and either Rothwell or Tanaka all in a space of about 18 yards by 20 yard.
No wonder we never look like breaking them down and looked extremely easy to defend.
Good point, stevethemouse. However, no matter much I appreciate Farke as our manager, he does make some bad - and recurring - selections and choices. Piroe as no.10, and the too late substitutions the two obvious ones.
Quality MDT Mouseman and good luck with your prolonged run.... this is one of the best MDTs I have ever seen with the copy and paste from Wikipedia I've ever seen.
I'm going for a positive 2-1 victory with a Byram/Schmidt brace....

We have an outstanding record against this lot - a proper chance to feck it up, but the run continues
