At times we had bewteen 1 and 3 players last season in the game day squad from our under 16's team. Any wonder we were relegated. On the flip slide we have 6 players between the age of 14 and 17 who have serious talent.
Does the new rule change still allow over age players to be fielded?
Last season was testing at all levels in the Club, U23's stepping up to senior, U18's into U23's all in a frantic fashion to help cover over our injury / suspension crisis we found ourselves in.
Hopefully this is a lesson that wont be forgotten next year but with recent arrivals im hoping we have additional bodies next year to prevent a 15year old having to take a place on the first team bench.
Once off fine we should manage but from Jan on MB and then JM were fire fighting almost every week to plug the holes.
Although it is disappointing to drop down, our U23s were depleted last season by the needs of the first team. Most that were included in our first team squads will now be there with others going out on loan.
We then had too many U18s making up the numbers. At least now they are likely to be playing against guys that are nearer their age group.
I saw this - it is all of the Premiership 2 structure, not just the league we've moved into, but I don't think the rule changes will make much of an impact on the sides we fielded or saw last season - most players are already U21 and they have upped the over-age allowance to 5 to compensate anyway.
