For some reason, unless I have missed something, the players that we eventually attract into the club, seem to be from mainland Europe whereas other clubs, apparently smaller in stature compared to ourselves, appear to spread the net further and find endless amounts of gems within the African continent, for not a great deal of money or at least that's what it seems. We seem to play these type of teams regularly who have pacy players that give us real issues.
Maybe I'm just over thinking things!
It not that we do not scout but rather a long rebuild of our scouting networks. If you remember back under the ownership of the Mr "Purple mad" Cellino we culled the complete department. Then under the Mr "to much faith in Orta" Radrizzani who was only allowed to believe man our department vanished almost entirely.
Under our current owner we are starting to rebuild scouting with Scotland being the starting point.
We have brought in Nick Hammond who was exceptional at finding young united Kingdom talents for celtic. We brought in Gretar Steinsson which will allow Criag Dean focus on Academy recruitment. Jordan Miles for senior squad.
We are building a proper recruitment and scouting department.
We brought in a new Academy Manager.
We also brought in 3 new scouts who have only been at the club 9 months.
All up that is 6 people to fix a department that was formerly under Orta iron fist.
It was the play like a red bull team philosophy that imo started this trend
Great point 1969 and never thought of that....
I think Arsenal first started buying your stereotypical big muscley African player and moulded them.... a lot of the youth academys buy up loads hoping 1,maybe 2 come through.
All our players look great on paper but they are just missing something or just too similar....
Look at Billing of Bournemouth. Very limited on the ball but an absolute handful attacking and defending....
Even English players like Baldy Smallbone and Flynn Downes beat us up today and were all over the pitch.... we'd never think about getting them
