I don't think you can categorically say one way or the other that the decision was right, given we don't know what the results would have been had Dyche not been sacked. Same with Leeds and Biesla, the results would have likely improved once Cooper and Phillips recovered.
If we can beat Crystal Palace, history suggests we will be safe - I can't remember the last time a team went down with 36 pts.
Its sh*t or bust now for Burnley as far as i see it
Everton play Foxes tomorrow and liverpool on Sunday.
Liverpool play manure tonight, in what are tragic circumstances that CR7 and his partner after suffering right now, Liverpool will/must win both tonight and Sunday's local derby against the blue side of Liverpool to keep Man City at bay.
Should toffees lose both games this week Burnley could overtake them as they have 2 homes games up next. If Burnley can somehow get out of the bottom 3 the pressure will shift to Lumpturd and lets be honest the players at Everton havent got the stomach for a a real dogfight, and thats something i feel the Board at Burnley have mis-calculated on, i think Dyche knows his players a lot better than anyone, and he could/would get the absolute last ounce of fight out of his players more so than anyone else that is asked to come in, imho.
Burnley have 3 home games in the next 4 PL games the 4th is away to watford and "if" they could bag 5-6 points they wont be out of it going into the final 3 games of the season. Of all the Clubs down there (including leeds) Burnley have the "easiest" fixtures on paper and realistically a Sean Dyche's Burnley could have won 10 points and end up with 35 points come the 22nd May, that tally may have kept them up, but we will never know now.
So the morning after - had a chance to try and understand this from the board's angle - not easy on this one, but fascinating nonetheless.
The board are reputed to have taken loans they can't afford if Burnley drop, so they have to do whatever they think maximises their chance of survival - no room for emotion.
They have only 2 choices now there's no xfer window:
A) stick with Dyche
B) Go for the new manager bounce
A) - before sacking Dyche they were 75% to go down according to the bookies and the supercomputer predictors - 25% staying up.
B) - of all the teams around them who have changed manager 3 (Everton, Watford and Norwich) have not had much of a bounce, 2 (Leeds and Newcastle) HAVE had the new manager bounce and indeed inside 8 games. That would give them a 40% (2/5) chance of what they need.
Statistically they have gone for the better option here - the challenges of course are whether those odds are correct, and the bigger issue - they need to have Dyche's replacement lined up already.
Bizarrely they don't seem to have done so - they go into Wet Spam game with a temp coach. Why not do this straight after the Norwich game? Head scratcher
A new coach/manager will nearly always get a positive response from his players, no matter how good or bad he is in the long run. Dyce has done well for Burnley-well that is by keeping them in the PL money! But the Board has decided to 'do a Bielsa' and hope that the new man can emulate JM.
There's a lot of research that suggests results would improve whether the manager gets the sack or not. And there's also a difference in results between those clubs who appoint good managers and those that pick average and those who pick poor managers. Needless to say, common held assumptions when challenged by statistics don't always stand up. It's the same in real life, I've had good managers leave to be replaced by tosspots who I have no desire to work for.
@The Smurf but if the new man has any sort of track record, then the players will give it their all for half a dozen games or so. Perhaps the players contracts stipulate a reduction in money, if relegated. I don't know how these things work!
I think it the new man is any good, players will certainly try to impress. I don't pretend to know the exact science but for every Jesse Marsch and Neil Redfearn, there does e m to be a Paul Heckingbottom and a Darko Milanic
Burnley have 24 points to play for (ok they only have 24 points for the season) but that isn't the point, their destiny was still in their own hands.
Can only see the number 2 or the reserve team manager coming in and taking over as a caretaker until the season ends, kinda doubly pointless in appointing a head coach at this stage.
Always though SD was honest in his interviews (albeit looking at the game from his sides point of view but dosent every manager do that) I think he has done a massive job for Burnley over 400 games in charge with a win ratio of 35%, i can see Burnly following Oldham after this season as being the second Club to fall out of the football league after playing in the premier league.
If they wanted a new manager bounce to try and save them, leaving it with 8 games to go is ridiculous. Complete and utter nonsense. Decent manager who will have problems finding another post.
Its looking like GD will separate 18th from 17th and possibly 16th with a handful of games left. And we all know the outcome of that 😥
Crucial that we dont lose tonight, a point away at PV side wont be a bad result and it will keep our unbeaten run going.
I'll not lie my stomach is in knots already.

so now we know - the Burnley board DID do the right thing - just like ours.
7 points from 3 games.
I don't give a toss whether it's Everton or Burnley who go down, as long as it's not us. Beggars can't be choosers.
Monday night starts to look very important with 3 of the top 4 in a row coming up next. 😒

Hockaday has been interviewed.
Brought his salt and pepper potx with tomato and brown sauce bottles to explain his style. Burnley owners were totally impressed.
Big Sam anyone?????
Hope he picks a better number two tho😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Interesting end of season at Turf Moor.
Bielsa heavily linked and clear favourite.... press conference due at 3pm to announce him
Just looked back in the last 5 years PL table
2016/17 Finished 16th with 40 points
2017/18 Finished 7th with 54 points
2018/19 Finished 15th with 40 points
2019/20 Finished 10th with 54 points
&
2020/19 Finished 17th but well clear of the bottom 3 with 39 points
Like what exactly do the owners and Board at Burnley expect?
Champions League???
Strange decision. They do have an easier run in that us and Everton but hard to see new manager improving their chances this late on.
Unless there was some kind of unrest with the players makes no sense to me.
Utter madness,

What a pointless sacking - they certainly won't get a better manager. Maybe Colin will come out of retirement.
