I am sure Gelhardt will be the No2 striker by end of season at least. He is young and his injury record is not good as his body matures. Too many little niggles here and there. He needs to be handled carefully.
I accept Roberts and Rodrigo totally frustrate the fans but if they put a real shift in then I cannot complain. However, I agree, both have had enough chances to show they can make a difference and that both are now in the last chance saloon.
Gelhardt saved the game against Wolves for us, and he can dribble through a defence - something very few players actually can. Against Tottenham he was also really good, in particular in the first half. Now, fortunately and hopefully, Bamford is back, but for me Gelhardt has done more than enough as a CF to be second choice and just after Bamford in the pecking order.
I know today's game is different to what it was years ago with a high press and stifling the opposition but if that is the case I'd sign on an Olympic marathon champion to replace Roberts to CONSTANTLY chase for 90mins.... he'd be as potent in front of goal and have as much chance as creating assists as Roberts!!
Are you really saying that you'd have Roberts in ahead of Geldhart, Rodrigo, Greenwood etc? At least these players would be a threat to the opposition goal AND they must be willing workers as well or Bielsa wouldn't have them near the squad....
Being able to close down the opposition is only part of being a striker or number 10....
The most goals Roberts has in a season is 5, yes, FIVE IN L1.... does this not tell us something? !! He's not offering assists either so pure closing down isn't good enough....
He's played something like 100 games for us and potential lasts 30 odd games before you have to give up on them.... he'll be having a testimonial soon and some will still say he'll come good in a couple of years.
For a team where we want to be, Roberts isn't the answer....
Gelhardt must be wondering if he’s ever going to get a decent chance. Once Bamford is back he must know he’ll be back in the U23s.
James up front and then Roberts there for the entire game. Blimey, wouldn’t blame him if he decides to go elsewhere for some game time. I’m sure a few teams would have him.
I just hope we don’t waste his undoubted talent.
The only sensible conclusion I can reach is that he doesn’t run around as much as the others.
Lady luck on our side again (long may that continu).
The effort was there (as it should be) and in general we shaded the game.
First ten minutes of first alf we were dominant, than we slowed down and allowed Palace in it. Second half we again started brightly and tried to it going, so that's a plus.
Not the vintage Leeds and one can plainly see the doubt and lack of confidence in the team. The lack of end product obvious.
So decent to good performances from;
Meslier; the lad is very agile and quick for one that tall.
Coops; solid enough & won us the pen.
Dallas; mostly did well against Zaha and bombed forward, is getting there.
Llorente; defended well, but his passing was not always on it.
James; never stopped running, created danger and troubled them a lot.
Forshaw, feel he had a very strong second half.
Regarding Roberts, bar a couple of chase backs in the first half didn't notice him much. Not a nr. 9, but at least the effort was there.
Not expecting much if anything from him so, so decent enough for him.
Klich: hardly involved and has become something of a passenger
Firpo: got booked within 2 mins from coming on & misplaced several passes but did get forward well and his link-up play improved as the game went on.
The one thing that stands out to me is that he's just not a defender (doesn't know how to tackle). Guess that at Barca it was not necessary, in the English game however.
Rodrigo; not happening for him yesterday, a very bad miss (not even getting a shot off?), at times very hard to believe he's a full international for Spain.
Pascal really struggled with Ayew and nearly gave away a pen, not sure how much the injury hindered his movements?
Philips steady, but plenty of room for improvement.
I disagree that it was a disappointing performance. We didn't play with flair and style but we battled against a very good side.
I never thought I'd say this but Roberts was one of our best players. Every player battled for the shirt. Considering where we are and the way we have played this season, the atmosphere was unbelievable.
Wasnt impressed with us at all last night, but look we got the 3 points and pulled a further away from the bottom three, i was really impressed with Leeds in the first half against spuds and we got fck all from it so as the late jimmy greaves said "football is a funny old game".
3 points in the bag i think if anything last night showed us is
1) Bamford is sorely missed
2) Bill making the overlap runs (even if he dosent get the ball) turns the opposition and the leeds player on the ball has options
3) Marcelo must now be running out of ideas in how to play everyone else in the starting xi before gelhardt is going to get his chance
4) Without Mesiler we are doomed.
Upto 15th and another "winnable" game in ER where the fans will egg the boys on to produce a performance and who knows maybe just maybe after the next round of fixtures we could be level on points with the scum and if they get battered in one of them we might even leapfrog them 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So all in all i'll take a poor performance so long as we get the 3 points ;)
Tyler did what was asked of him Chased down the defenders and pressed from the front. Palace do not go long often but his work rate forced them to do so and they were ineffective. Sorry, Tyler did his job TC!
Firpo - clearly lacking in confidence but that was coming back in 2nd half.
Vierra must train his players in the art of falling over. Ayew, Gallagher, Saha, Benteke, Ward,et Al went down with no real contact. Is that cheating?
Pat should be available this weekend and Luke too. May start on the bench but what a lift!
Just hope Pascal's injury is not serious though.
3 points is all that matters!!! Lets not pick holes in what was a decent performance against a decent team.
Please don't come on and say how well Roberts did.... he did no more than any player should do. I GUARANTEE people will be on saying what a great game he had.... HE DID A VERY MINIMAL BETTER THAN WHAT HE USUALLY DOES AND STILL NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH !!
He's now going to be fkn starting on Sunday when I can watch my first game since Covid.... 🤬🤬🤬🤬
steve- get the Chelsea mdt up,it was a good omen having 2 mdt's up at same time
.
I think Bielsa said Roberts can leave in January if he wants.

Sorry again BB and love you BUT....!!

Result is what counted! WE WON.
Phew!!!

Have to say, Dan James is better than Harrison.

Junior is slowly getting better and better
Well Done Stevie Boy!

Well that’s good I can pen the next MDT

Hope he scores a hat trick though.... I think
YYEEESSS!!!!!!
YES!!! Pay Raphinha anything he wants!
If we can just produce a few chances we can win this, but don’t we need a goalscorer like Gelhardt to come in, soon?
Don’t think Roberts was any worse than anyone else. And after Rodrigos shocking miss on goal, you can see why he didn‘t get to start.
I thought we'd had as much of the first half as Palace?
It’s so strange that we’re so bad and toothless
