Don't go to bed just yet.....
Probably the biggest headache for DF and the Board, is not so much who they want to bring into the club, but what to do with the majority of the existing players.
In my opinion, we only have 4 "Premiership" players in the squad, James, Rodon, Ampudu & Solomon (if he signed up). The rest are good Championship players but do not have the necessary skills to play in the top league, however they have got the team, hopefully, to the Premiership.
Do they deserve a crack at playing in the Premiership?, almost certainly. Could the sentiment land us in a heap of trouble? possibly, so what to do?.
You could give them until the transfer window in January and then see where we are and decide the next course of action, however if we are deep in the sh*t by then, no one will want to join and another doomsday scenario beckons.
Alternatively, you could put the majority of the squad up for sale and dig deep into the pockets and buy several Premiership class players, that will ensure we stay in the top league for the "holy" second season, therefore establishing ourselves as a true Premiership team.
This of course flies in the face of the PSR rules, but to be honest, I think we should just ignore that and press on regardless. The 49er's Enterprise I'm pretty sure, are packed with enough lawyers that would tie the FA up for years to come.
Tin hat time....if we go oop!
Darwin Nunez will be available from Liverpool and we should get him. He is in the right position and creates so many chances that he'll get us 20 goals....he should get 40 but he'll miss so many but given a run he'll feel wanted.
He knows this division and never gets more than a 3 game run at Liverpool....
Get Kellerher in goal as well and Buendia as the 10....
As much as I love Rodon and Struijk, they will not be totally solid in the Prem so we need a proven CB (like Elvidi who's not proven)....they switch off in the championship let alone the Prem!
Play 3 at the back and put Firpo LWB or get rid as he can't defend. He could be quality going forward with Bogle on the other side and take games to other teams ala Bielsa and score more than the opposition....
Think how many balls Nunez and Bamford will lose in training though....😱🙈😱🙈
Pay whatever they want for
McAtee
Delap
And a LB who can defend
Yeah saw that and some good players on that list to be linked to 4 months early to not get anyway....
A lot of talk about Koni De Winter today, this one does make a lot of sense and he would be a great fit for Leeds. A Centre Back who can play as either full back, and who is compared to Kompany. Would cost about £ 12m but would be a worthy addition.
Our summer spree could look something liked this
Manor Solomon, £8m
Koni De WInter, £12m
Eduard Spertsyan £17m or Emiliano Buendía £16m
Cameron Archer £15m
and Archie Gray £35m
A lot of hot air on the fan sites saying we want to sign Callum Wilson!! As if!!! He’s 32, on a big wage and no resale value. Odds are we will be back in for Archer and Buendia, although I think there’s better options than both of them.
Glad we kept Joseph but surprised WBA beat us to Armstrong - unless we were never truly interested?
Most transfers winter windows at LUFC are fairly quiet to say the least.
We're always one of the few clubs that find it very hard to find any affordable, available, willing to come, good characters, fitting, better than those we've got, players.
So no surprise there. At least Farke was awake this time.
Also with the transfer proces that was described to us, it's no wonder it takes ages for us to get a transfer over the line.
Having said all that, the current team & squad are or at least seem more than capable to win promotion. However strengthening your team, even when you're on top surely isn't unheard of. Striker position and the nr. 10 spot remain rather thin.
Am I alone in thinking we can do better than Cameron Archer if we wait until the summer. He would have made a great loan signing but I wouldn’t have wanted to pay £15m for somebody who hasn’t made it in the premiership. We need upgrades not additions. Clearly all the number 10s we liked didn’t want to drop a division.
I also think knocking back £10m for Joseph is a vote of confidence in our young starlets. We need to make sure we send the right signals to Harry Gray and Crew.
Farke did tell us it would be a quiet window. So did Kinnear. And so did Graeme Smyth. So we can’t say we weren’t warned
We all wanted to get some transfer activity done today and we have it with Joseph potentially exiting.... FFS you couldn't make it up!!
The only positive to come from this is that we'd be getting Armstrong or Archer from Southampton.... maybe! 🙈🤔
Typical fkn window for us.... don't go to bed just yet as we'll be announcing a fkn Rod Stewart concert at Elland Road at 11pm
DEADLINE DAY MOVE:
It's a striker too.....
Mateo Joseph being lined up to go to Real Betis. No wonder we got that poor reaction when he scored at the weekend....
Cameron archer omitted from the Southampton squad today.
Southampton shoot down our loan offer for Archer. Looks like they want a sale. Word on the virtual street is that we will fire in a loftier bid.
Mateusz Piotr Bogusz has just transferred to Mexican side Cruz Azul for £8m, and yes Orta did insert a sell on clause.
We had a trialist from Liverpool playing off the bench this week. He's Oakley Cannonier (great name), a striker, aged 20. He's an England u19 aand he's born in Leeds! I did expect that we would improve the u21s and Oakley looks like he ticks all the boxes.
Just shows that a player like Buendia could be like Pablo and thread creative balls through in a crap game like that....
I've never wanted us to lose (and still don't) but after Bumley tonight, a defeat seems to be the only way we'll get a decent signing. How the fkn did we get 120m incoming in the summer and still be in trouble with PPI etc!?
The whole squad needs an overhaul if we do get to the Premier, so why not start now!
Don't think the 69ers will take the hint though....
The latest clickbait is interesting....
The OX - in Turkey and not playing regularly.... England International and 31.
Could he fit the 10 role??
I think we're probably done for this transfer window. Looks like Buendia is Bayern Leverkeusen bound amd we are c;learly only interested in number tens, no matter all the fake stories linking us to defenders, central midfielders and strikers. I thought we might have made more waves in the u 21s market but that would have happened by now. Maybe, there's something in the Lewie Barrie rumour and using him as a number 10, but can;t help feeling that's putting a square peghole in a round hole.
Iheanacho is quality but wasn't up to Citeh standard and very unlucky that Leicester only played a system with one oop top.... and that was Vardy.
He'd score loads in the Championship if given a run to get us promoted and can be subbed for Piroe if it's not working in games. Bit harsh for Joseph but this is big boys football....
Perfect solution on loan to stay within PPI and get Buendia and Elvidi as well!
In the meantime folks - while we wait on Buendia...
Kelechi Iheanacho....... new striker link!
Farke also said about Buendia that he doesn't talk about any player at another club under contract....
Surely he'd just say "we're not in for him" if we weren't in for him....if you see what I mean!?
I just can't understand why clubs like Everton, West Ham, Wolves, Leicester etc etc are not in for him?
They need a player like him to create goals!?
It's only us being linked!!
This is what Farke said today - “I think it’s fair to say if there is a creative offensive player out there, like a number 10 position, then it is something that could be beneficial for our group," He's still got the fishing rod out. I reckon it's all down to Buendia's wages.
Has Buendia signed yet?
So easy to get players in and out and learn from not buying/loaning players last January window and failing to get promoted....
Get rid of:
Meslier
Wober
Firpo
Gnonto
Bamford
Loan out:
Geldhart
Crew
Debayo
Transfer in:
Johannson
Elvidi
Loan in:
Omidombele
Davies
Buendia
Iheanacho
Barry
I won't bore you with the stats of transfers and wages that I've worked out but the figures are very similar....you can rely on me
This took me 10mins to work out, guarantees us promotion and is completely foolproof....
Joffy now gone to Dull on loan
I've just seen that Buendia is behind 4/5 players in the Villa team.... surely we can get him on loan with an option to buy for the Prem if he does well!?
Add striker Barry as well from Villa on loan, Davies on loan from Spuds and we keep within PPI....
Fkn simple and not rocket science....
Yes, seems Gelhardt & Crew are on the verge of signings loan deals at Hull & Donny resp.
Going off topic , but when watching the cup game I was thinking how much players like Joseph, Joffy & Crew (the latter played in a few) are missing playing competitive games to win back their mojo.
Yes the more promising youngsters are training with the first team but as a result they seem to hardly get any game time with the U21's.
Need to remember those U21's games lead to Jimmy, Greenwood and Gelhardt emergence. Even the injured players (like Gruev) weren't able to ease their way back playing with the U21's. Perhaps the rules have changed, but not having a reserve team league isn't helping.
Mind you, we would seriously need to beef up the number of squad players. Not happening.😏
Joe Gelhardt having a medical today according to internet rumourmonkers, ahead of a move to Hull Tigers. It was only a handful of years ago that Joe was being touted as one of the best 100 young players in the world. I think this will come back to bite us in the end.
The clickbait on Khursanov from Lens was half right - he has indeed come to a famous club in the North of England.
Sadly it's City for £33.3M (40M EURO)
we're now fishing in the Andrew Obadimabodibadilimedie pond (Nottm Forest defender linked)
Some new gossip
Latte Lath (£15M)
Ledesme (GK) river Plate
Mergim Berisha (ST) Hoffenheim, loan deal
Farke has spent the last couple of days explaining why we won't be signing anybody this window. The odd loan and some u21s will be the limit to our transfer business.
Tin hat time....
We're heavily linked to Nico Elvidi who has 56 caps for Switzerland as a CB. Farke used to manage him and speaks highly of him....
Struijk is linked to Spurs, Brighton and Wolves for 20/25m and we can get Elvidi for 8m....a great bit of business.
Only slight problem is we'd lose a left footer in Struijk.
Nobody wants 'one of our own ' to go, but this is a great deal....
Ideally we'd keep Struijk and sign Elvidi.... and sell Wober but we'd only get 5m(?) for him
Expect no incoming as I think fark hinted at in his post match interview
We HAVE to buy and be pro active....look what happened last season!
Without being too negative, how many of our better players will be good enough for the Prem?
Rodon? Struijk? Ampadu? Tanaka?Gnonto? James?
These maybe squad players and not one is guaranteed to be good enough to be even an average Premier player.
We need players to bed in now because we can't sign a whole new team in the summer....
We cannot gamble and finish 3rd and have to qualify through the playoffs!
Surely top businessmen from Red Bull can see this!?
Graham Smyth says the only expected business for Leeds in this window is Gelhardt going out on loan.
If true, I’d still expect there will be some additions to the U21s and U18s.
Don't mind drawing today as it just highlights the fact that we need a creative no10 to break teams down....
Surely spending anything circa 20/25m is peanuts to guarantee us the riches of the Premier....!?
We could always try and bring attacking midfielder Matuez Boguezs back to the club after his freakish season where he played 36 times, scored 16 and assisted 8 this season in the MLS.
Alan Nixon is quoted as saying Aussie wonderkid and goalkeeper, Robbie Cook, has been on trial at Leeds and signed a contract.
https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-united-set-to-sign-goalkeeper-on-three-year-contract-amid-man-utd-and-sunderland-interest-4910671
A cheap permanent option for a no10 is Diego Looney who has been linked to us from the MLS....
He's a youngster, left footed and the MLS Young Player of the Year .... he's got to be half decent and we could get for 6m(?)
Apart from not knowing anything about him he seems perfect....😱😜🤔🙈
Get Buendia on loan til the end of the season and we'll get promoted....he can't even get off the bench for Villa, when he's actually in the squad.
His stats are unbelievable for the Championship and rotating him and Aaronson is far too good at this level....
That's the end of us getting McAtee after he made the 2nd goal for Citeh and he'll stay in their squad now! 🙈🤬
IMO our weakest spots, and where we have to strengthen at some point, are keeper, fullbacks (both), no.10, and a striker (Joseph will come good, but we need back-up other than Piroe whose limit is the Championship).
As for the U21’s, I think that I haven’t heard much other than the well-known talents of Harry Gray and Charlie Crew, and possibly Sam Chambers. Anyone in the know about the next big thing from our Academy?
Worth noting multiple reports that we have made a big bid for a 20 year old LCB from Lens.
Keep your eyes on this situation.
Van de Ven apparently Madrid bound meaning Spuds are definitely looking at CB to strengthen - enter Struijk rumours.
No Championship club needs 3 x £10M+ LCB options. We have Struijk, Wober and Ampadu.
It is interesting what fans are saying about certain players.
I hear alot saying that Wober can go but he has not let us down when played this season. His passing, his interplay, his ability to understand his role and responsibilities have been spot on thus far and we could not get better without spending millions on millions and that is without a 6month bedding period that players need during January transfers.
I hear alot about us needing a 10 but in my eyes I believe Solomon would be suited to that role for 30 minutes a game. After all that is the position where is name first came to be known when at Shaktar Donetsk. While I am not his fan I believe that him in that position for the last 30 minutes a game would be deadly.
Why I still thinks Meslier has hugh potential as ab goalkeeper, I maintain that is the clubs fault we never will see it. Reason? Simply, Meslier is first choice no matter what (as explain by our other keepers in live interview over the past 3 years). Until he is dropped and made to earn his spot again he will remain in that plateaued stage of development.
Gelthardt and Bamford are the interesting ones as I believe both require 3xits but in different ways. Think Gelthardt need a 18 month loan were he will play every week as it take 12 month of consistent football for him get his mojo back. Bamford on the other had needs a decent 3 year contract to be his swansong and believe the French league would suit him as a person and as a player.
In this window we should be bolstering our u18's and u21's.
Changing our goalkeeper in mid season would be too disruptive. Despite a couple of soft goals, he retains the confidence of the Back four. And I don’t see us being offered £15m for him. Ditto any of the three CBs, it’s the defence that has got us into second place. We have the third tightest defence in the league and the best GD. Again I don’t see anybody offfering silly money. It’s the front line up where we might see changes. Gelhardt needs to go out on loan, and probably will be joined by Crew, Debayo and maybe Chambers. We know Farke was looking for a number ten and apart from that has said it would be a quiet transfer window. McAtee has been mentioned a lot but we would probably need to pay cash rather than a loan. In which case we are competing against premiership clubs, but then again, we can offer playing time. Barry is more of a winger, and we are well covered in that position - especially if Harrison comes back. Dot Turgeman could be a left field option and one to watch out for. Can’t see Hamer, Buendia, Carvalho, Jack Clarke or young Bellingham being on the cards. There’s always Ryan Kent!!!!
Anyway, I wouldn’t hold my breath on any major signing or departure apart from a number 10 and some outgoing loans.
This message was brought to you by Papa Smurf.
Well done Soopa ...
Wober can go....
If we get anything over 25m for Struijk we should accept it and are linked to Olombidade from Forest for 10m....
If we get anything over 15m for Meslier I'd accept that now and get the Stoke keeps for 5m....
We'd then have 25m EXTRA from whatever we'd have had and can buy a QUALITY no10 and get that striker Barry on loan from Villa.
This guarantees us promotion without spending hardly anything....fkn simple and not rocket science.
