Right folks, seems like a great chance for everyone to give this window a score out of 10 and then your reasons.
I'll go first.
Score: 8/10
The Good
We lost 2 key first teamers and 2 fringe first teamers - in return we've brought 9 players to the club which has brought the average age right down and added depth to a very thin squad.
We got the bulk of our business done early.
We have re-signed a troop of the best U23's.
We have aligned the squad to the way JM wants to play and so far we've seen good signs.
The value for money approach has clearly worked with the giant benefit from Raphinha and the price we've paid for guys who are clearly already worth more.
At the end of the window we're 6th in the PL - way ahead of our target - as a result of the new players, Aarondsen, Adams, Roca have been outstanding so far.
The Bad
Sad to see KP leave his club, although it was inevitable so that's not about blaming the bigwigs.
Did we need a LB? I'm still not sure, but Struijk and Firpo are what we have so let's hope it's not going to hurt us.
Did we need a proper striker? We have lots of young bodies who play as forwards, but only Paddy B still as an out and out target man.
The Ugly
The Bamba Dieng thing was a farce - Radz should know better than to get involved in Twitter conversations. We have a poor record on deadline day for messed up deals.
Lets see those scores on the doors....
We have created a squad that has potential to be high quality but those players are young and not actually playing which inturns is damaging their careers and our future as well.
RB: Drameh - is better then Ayling but needs to be playing. Championship game time needed now.
LCB: Hjelde - is almost already at Coopers level. Young but needs playing time. Championship game time needed now.
RCB: Cresswell - Shown already ar Championship he is almost ready.
CM: Gyabi - Darko needs league 1 game time needed now.
CM: Gray - Archie needs first team football. League 1 game time needed now.
RW: Summerville - is already good enough for 70 minutes a game in the EPL.
LW: Gnonto - Needs English football game time. 6 month in the Championship and he is ready to start next season.
Striker: Gelthardt, Perkins, Greenwood - All need 90 minutes a week every week and Championship is where it should be. 6 month and they will be ready.
Out and out Striker: Joseph - 10 minute a game each week in the first team and 90 minutes in the 21's. Next season a season loan championship next season.
Roca has proved to be a Okon clone... Unimpressed and think he needs to play higher up the park. Not a DCM.
Ayling, Cooper and Forshaw should be told thank you for your service but fcuk off now.
Funny how our best reserve keeper was sold in the offseason and he is showing it in the Italian serieB.
Think we will go for a LB and experienced No9.
We spent nothing this summer so there is a decent pot available
still rumours there will be a signing in january
another thread sinking in gummies crap
I love Hattrick but he does seem to be very injury prone and a team needs a main striker to be fit for most of the season.
This is the only big change I'd make in January IF we look like getting dragged into the relegation battle.... problem is that big name strikers cost more money in the January transfer window AND we've only got a few more games before then with the World Cup shutdown!
I'm not writing him off but just don't think he should be the main man now and for a club to progress they need a striker to guarantee goals....
I'd love to see Perkins, Geldhart, Gnonto, Summerville, Drameh, Hjelde and Gyabi given game time to see if they can be starters next season.... tough balance though.
Would expect some movement in January, depending on our position in the league table.
KP has not played real minutes since we sold him. Adams looks better as a DCM, Roca can as good as him. Brendan and Sinister Terror are better than Rafa. Gyabi, Gnonto and Perkins are huge future talents. So all in all a good window
Re. Phillips, you have to remember he was in the final year of his contract and could have gone for nothing in 2023. As it is, Footballtransfermarket.com valued him at £45m and Raphinha at £40m so anything we might have lost on Kelvin, we got back on Raphinha. Swings and Roundabouts. Swings and roundabout.
it was a really difficult transfer window for VO,we lost our 2 best players in Raf and Kalvin.
Raf was our top scorer and probably top for assists and our most skillfull player. The Stat that was going around last season is we didn't pick up many points when KP didn't play.
so we sold our best 2 players and sold/loaned out a bunch of fringe players but we have a better rounded squad I think this season.
Aaronson looks a great signing
Roca & Adam's look solid
Sinisterra isn't match fit yet but looks like he could be a decent signing.
I rate the window 6/10-we sold Philip's too cheap imo.
At the start of the summer it was obvious we needed a left back & a number 9,we didn't sign either.
That 6/10 could be bumped up to a 7 or 8 depending if the likes of Gnoto, Perkins, Gyabi, etc can break into the first team.
Our net spend was minimal when you take into account we bought in 100 million+ from players sold,I don't get why we didn't have more money to spend,we sell out every home game our fan base is expanding so more merch sales, etc.
I don't think we will go down this season but we won't be too far above the drop zone 14th -16th position would be my prediction..
.
Our finances - it looks like the classic example of an owner wanting to sell his business in the near future, so restricts the amount of investment.
49's need to sort this out soon and not wait to Jan 2024.
Hm, after JM's press conference, I'm even more baffled as to why and James was allowed to go? To make way & to balance the squad/team.
For an 18-year old, JM called one for the future & not ready for first team action?
From going after CDK, Gapko, Bamba for record transferfees (+ the wages to fit) to Gnonto with James having to make way.
Something's not right. Are we skint?
Net outlay this season was what?
James must be feeling swell, JM didn't want him to go either, he wanted to stay.
They splashed 25/27Million on him and now shove him out the door for a U23?
James probably can't wait to come back.
Board get a shxtload towards them, if results & performances don't pick up.
This window for me is a wait and see for our overall marks. For the first team I will rate it as 5 out of 10. The reason for this mark is because we needed a CM, DCM, St, and LB. So we filled 2 of the 4 needs which makes 50% successful. Time will tell if the players will succeed but on paper they have the attributes to.
Now if I am rating the U21's transfer then it is a 10 out of 10. Darko G, Perkins, and now this kid we signed at 10:59pm deadline.
I feel sorry for Dan James as he wanted to stay and fight for his place and was virtually forced out of the door.... he didn't have much luck with us!
Did he ever play 5 games in a row in his preferred position? He was either an impact sub or played as a fkn centre forward because we fkd up with only having Bamford as striker.... having Harrison and Raphinha as first choices didn't help him!
I really wanted him to sign for us purely because of his raw pace and built him up.... I do think there's a good player there in a couple of years.
Good luck Dan....
I would concur at an 8 out of 10 ( points lost for the last day fiasco!).
Views and rates from fans will change depending on performances and even more so with results.
But from what I've seen thus far we should be ok, unless we get hit by a crazy amount of injuries.
On to the transferbusiness, as expected we lost Rapha, Kalvin.
Still not totally happy with their fees, but from the looks of it, we've spend well both in terms of net outlay and with the quality of players signed.
Transfer deadline day is something we should avoid, do your business earlier.
Points: a very nice 7!
Bonus: we're well in FFP guidelines and there should still be enough in the kitty (if needed).
Its an 8 for me. Great to get players in early + sign an experienced back up keeper.
It would have been a 10 if we signed a proper No9 and a LB
However Pascal is playing well as the LB and Willy could be he signing of the season. Lightening quick and loves to run with the ball.
Short & Sweet
Good - Doing business early (a welcome change, so wanted early signatures for a longtime)
Bad - Losing Kalvin (loved him, always did, he is LEEDS) but him leaving was always going to happen because unfortunately LEEDS cant offer CL / European football and every international player wants to play in that competition.
Score 8
Good write up Soopa and I wanted to go last to copy others as I haven't got my own brain....
I'm not sure about Roca yet as I've only seen games on the tv and he doesn't seem to be totally involved. However, he's one of those players that keeps the ball ticking over etc and my season ticket mate says he does a lot of work off the ball....
Gyabi could be quality in there alongside Adams but I'd keep it as it is at the moment....
Hopefully, Hattrick will get fitness and goals soon and I'd love to see Willy get a chance although Geldhart won't be happy!
Sonny Perkins also needs to be in the squad NOW. My West Ham mate is gutted he left and reckons he's the next big thing. No point in keeping him in the u23s as he's already ripped that up and proved he's too good for that....
I'm going to give a score of either 6, 7 or 8....hope that helps 😉🙈🤔😲
