Meslier already is very good. Maybe among the best shot-stoppers in the league, but still with something to learn when it comes to controlling his area?
So we definitely should give him a long-term contract.
On the other hand: we hardly have a back-up keeper (say no more...).
I’d like someone like my countryman Jonas Lossl, now playing for FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga, and who was very good for Huddersfield the season before they went down. I also rate WBA’s Sam Johnstone, but even though they’re going down he might still be committed to them, next season.
Thoughts?
I guess you know my views 😀
Totally agree with BB, let's get our £35k a week back so we can add a player to the squad.
Our keeper needs to play with the ball at his feet and hit passes as and when required. Johnstone, Hart, Forster, Krul, Ruddy are really poor at this. Caprile is excellent though and his shot stopping, coming for crosses have improved this season.
We should not be like Man Poo and pay £30million a year out in wages for 1 position. Maybe it is time to take a gamble as wages could be better spent in other areas.
I don't think there's too many 21 year olds like Meslier who would pay much attention to a seasoned veteran who they're already better than. The understudy therefore needs to be someone who is either content to play second fiddle or somebody more junior who is looking to improve. I'm pretty sure I know what type Biesla prefers. if Caprile is good, I'd stick with him. Better the hungry player than the risk-adverse one.
Very hard one to call as it'd be a struggle having 2 TOP keepers....
As much as I'd love Johnstone, he'd be holding back the development of Meslier if he came here and vice versa....
Darlow is another I'd love, but is too good to be competing.... I know that sounds ridiculous and you need someone to push you but it's a very fine balance.
I think an older, experienced keeper who doesn't mind sitting on the bench but is fine to play in case of injury or back up to Meslier....
Joe Hart would be perfect....
Maybe Frazer Forster from Soton although I think he'd want first team football....
John Ruddy from Wolves?
Tim Krul? I think he'd stay with Norwich though if promoted....
You can't guarantee a foreign keeper coming over here and punching balls that come softly straight at him....
Is Caprile good enough? I wouldn't have a clue! We have to get rid of Kiki and his 35k pw!!
Get Marco Silvestre back as he is quality and one of the best shot stoppers I've seen.... yes, he was dodgy on crosses but that can be knocked out of him if we'd given him time. Won't happen but you get the gist of it....
Caprile is great too, do not rule him out as back up if Kiko leaves
I would go for an experienced Gk someone like Dubravka or Darlow from Newcastle,They would be good for mentoring a young keeper like Meslier and they would be good enough to seriously challenge Meslier for the number one jersey.both would be a massive improvement on Kiko.
I like Johnson from WBA but I think he will go somewhere where he is guaranteed to be first choice,I think Meslier is currently better than him and improving
