Despite the 3-0 win in Baku the other night and everyone conveniently forgetting that we are chasing down Luxembourg ffs for 3rd place in the Group, the boys in Green are facing Qatar again tomorrow evening (Tuesday 12th Oct).
Kenny can harp on all he likes about only having lost 1 game in the last 7 but anyone watching ROI during his tenure can see our results have been really poor, as someone once mentioned "a league table dosent lie", oh and it was our 1st clean sheet in this campaign as well.
I think SK will make 2-3 changes in the starting xi and hopefully with an early goal we can extend our winning run to two games😂
Papering over the cracks springs to mind
ROI 2-0
Bull wont be putting any money on it nor will i be opening any cans of cider, think i'll give my liver a night off😜
Like our own MB he has a vision on how he wants his team to play and sticks by that philosophy. Im not trying to compare SK and MB but you know what i mean.
Any successful manager needs to understand what players are available to him and develop a system around that. With Club management (if lucky) you can buy a player whom you think you are missing to address the gap, but with international management that option isn't available so an international manager has to astutely aware what is currently available to him, what additional cover is available in case of injury and what potential the next generation of youngster might be coming thro. All these factors will/should formulate the "system" not the other way round imho.
SK or any international manager cant go into any job with any preconceived idea on any system until you know whats available, thats like saying a man stranded on a dessert island will have a plan to fly off that island an stick to that plan rigidly despite not having any materials on the island to achieve that plan, a sh1t€ load of timber to make a boat but no metal for an engine for failure is inevitable.
Didnt see the wba/chelski game but by all accounts Robinson had a stormer but he needs to be doing that regularly, if he did im sure he takes McGoldricks shirt, but one swallow dont make a summer likewise one good game against chelsea dont make him an international either, but no doubting the guy has potential and does deserve a crack in the green jersey but he needs to show he can play well week in week out to justify that claim.
Being serious, the ROI managers job would be ideal for Fat Frank. He would still be able to live at home apart from match weeks, he is well connected and I am sure he could persuade some promising kids to change allegiance and swap to ROI.
Would not cost a lot as he is still be paid by Chelsea as "gardening leave" and I am sure Roman would be happy to let ROI part subsidise these payments.
As Bull said, the GAA is a bigger pull than football because the national team is so poor.
With a population of less then 5 million the pool of talent available is not good so ROI need to get creative.
Also, Lampard would actually play a more attractive game and players would listen to him!
Kenny has only managed in the League of Ireland apart from a year in Scotland, so hardly inspires the confidence in players that he knows what he is doing.
When ROI were successful, it was because Charlton/McCarthy realised they needed players that qualified to inspire Irish kids to play the game by bringing success on the pitch.
Think you are right BB, although St Jude would have his work cut out with this lot!!.
I remember when Jack started his recruitment drive, there were quite a few home supporters who were not happy that some of the players being selected for the team had tenious Irish links to say they least. Tony Cascarino being a prime candidate who qualifed by virtue of his adopted Grandfather in Mayo!.
Suffice to say that these people then started eating humple pie by the bucket loads as the results started to happen.
I'm not sure that the FAI have the foresight or courage to even consider what you are suggesting, but clearly Irish Rugby and the GAA are top of most people's viewing tables these days so something needs to happen and quickly to at least make the effort to turn on the TV to watch.
Callum Robinson received racial abuse online after helping WBA destroy Chelsea.
another reason to hate the knuckle draggers of Chelscum.
its disgraceful.
on a separate note,Robinson imo is the most improved Irish player in the last few years,he was immense for wba v Chelsea, not just the goals but the link up play was superb.
I would change the system we(ROI) play and play him in the number 10 role,we create very little with Kenny's system.we are badly missing a player to demand the ball in the final third and Robinson did that in both qualifiers but in wide areas with no willing runners to overlap or get into the box.
what do you think BTWD,Montana, other Irish posters on here?
The only way we are going to get the best out of Robinson would be to have a complete re-think on system and strategy, but as we know, that's not going to happen while the FAI retain Kenny who seems impervious to any criticism on his style of play, insisting that he is a very successful manager with an excellent track record of victories.

Yet another pityful performance against a team that probably didnt play football upto 30 years ago.
How can the FAI continue with the Kenny era??? 11 games no wins and to think we have played some really weak nations in those 11 games its unacceptable to me that the status quo should continue.
FAI should hold their hands up come out and say they made a mistake SK hasn't the managerial experience for international level and be honest with people, if they continue with this charade the fans (moms and dads) will leave in their droves back to the GAA, rugby taking their kids with them.
Time to act has come otherwise we will be a 4th/5th tier nation sitting in a pot with the likes of San Marino, Faroe Islands etc (no disrespect intended) and wont get any chance to qualify for any major tournament for 20 years.
This has to be lowest point in my lifetime (50 odd) of the Irish International football team.
There is a joke going around that after being beaten by Japan 14-0, the Mongolian football team want to play us in order to restore their confidence!! A joke it may be, but I'd be panicking playing them or San Marino. Jesus, Jack would be crying in his grave!
I suppose they cannot sack Kenny as probably cannot afford to pay him off, if he had any balls he would walk. FFS, get Brian Cody the Kilkenny hurling manager in there and sort the shower out!.
Yep, but still ended up drawing with the mighty Qatar!!. I'm beyond understanding what was the point of a useless friendly in Hungary, footballers already struggling with too many matches ( would add that ROI's issues are nothing to do with fitness, just pure s*ite).
Unofficial MDT ROI Versus Qatar

I cant see SK changing his style tbh.

Listen, Steve Evans, Gary Monk or Warnock, if he can be prised away from Boro, are the men!
Imagine the side ROI could have had if they focused on youth - Grealish, Rice, Bamford, Conor Gallagher, et al could have been playing now.
Might be able to score more than 1 goal every 7 games.

OMG ROI have scored! More Guinness everyone!
Will ROi actuall manage to score a goal against the mighty Qatar? I am sure Kenny has a cunning plan that may, or may not, involve turnips.
Give the job to Steve Evans!
Yes.....
4-0 Qatar....
