We didn't really give it a REAL go though and thought we could've closed them down better as a team and steamed in and got a few bookings spread out....
We got a free headed goal from a corner when they were 3 up and coasting and they could have scored a few more.... it just shows the difference between the two teams.
Why didn't Summerville or Harrison come on when we were chasing the game to create chances instead of all the defensive minded substitutions? Were we just trying to shore it up? With 5 subs available surely we could have been more positive with them?

Gelhardt is another who was more purposeful in 20 mins than Rodrigo who he replaced. I would now be looking to build the team around Meslier, Struijk, Adams, Greenwood, Aaranson, Gnonto, Gelhardt and Summerville.

its a damp miserable day here in the west of Ireland and for all my optimism a fortnight ago thats well and truely gone.
Damage limitations i feel and "if" we can keep the score down then at the end of the year a good goal difference is almost worth another point (think back to last season and the minus GD that was beside us)

Of all the injuries and setbacks we have seen as a club this season I actually think the loss of Dallas for the rest of the season is the biggest blow of all.

Hi Danish, Brighton are on a run now and Brentford away isn't exactly a good hunting ground for us. Both equally difficult. On paper at Arsenal (we never seem to get anything there, this dispite some good performances, perhaps we're due some luck???

For the next games, I would very much like us to start with Gelhardt upfront, at least he can lead the line a bit. Even if I feel he's better suited to be the second striker.
Rest of the picks itself now, with Coops (doubtfull), Dallas, Forshaw, Bamford (?) all out.
Are we now gonna prepare for the Brighton and Brentford games? So far, this season we have not had a single point against the traditional so-called top6, so not expecting much from the two upcoming matches (Chelsea and Arsenal). Get Joffy upfront, for James, and maybe Greenwood for Rodrigo who has not really kept the level from his 3-4 good performances a few weeks back.
The line-up JM produced was surprising, 5 at the back to start with.
Leaving us a man short in midfield, and as nearly always just the one player up front.
After Dallas got injured, JM put Raphina in his position.
James came on and was played in front Rapha, at 2 down he went higher up the pitch and did cut inside more from the right handside (started to chase down in the middle). Especially when Rodrigo tired out.
To me it looked like Rodrigo, until his replacement played up top on his own.
After Firpo went off, Joffy took the striker position. Not exactly sure what Rodrigo then did (either way he was totally uneffective, heavy touches, often pedestrian).
When Greenwood came on James really went up top.
Would like to see us try 442, but in Bamford's absence do we have 2 strikers who can play there & be efficient? To me, neither James or Rodrigo aren the answer.
After thinking on the match i have to say that if we goinging to move forward then the formation needs to revert back to football tried and trusted 4-4-2 as that is what our squad is designed for. Playing 2 uo top give us someone in the box to finish off moves (we had 3 clear cut chances with not striker there).
Why did James still play centrally today? Perfect chance to ha e out wide on the wing.

Its going to be very interesting to see how JM sets up his team as this City can expose nearly every system they have faced all season so a massive task ahead. In games such as these (as massive favourite against an underdog) the under dog must maintain concentration levels and cant afford to let the mind wander for a second, plus the under dog must try and play the game at their pace / tempo. We need smart play, proper passing, take the easy pass instead of trying a "flick" or round the corner, and we certainly cant afford to be faffing about at the back, we cant invite City into our final third they need to earn that space.
Mouseman the Magnificent makes it another magic MDT, Man City the matchup.
Monday was mediocre, but meeting the masters of the moment who just mutilated Madrid will be a massive challenge.
