How come Charlie Crewe is not playing in every game? Surely playing has to help him a little. Just training with first team does not for match sharpness.
Why is Diogo Monterio not getting game time at CB? He look good every time he has played but seem to be the odd man out.
Every time Jeremiah Mullen seem to be in the team there disorganisation in the defence. He has talent but something is just not right when he plays.
Charlie Crew is now on the bench for the first team and a full part of that squad, so he's not really a part of the U21 setup.
Same as answers given in past seasons - there are other players coming through that Leeds want to see in the U21 environment.
Monteiro is something else - he was a £1M signing and on paper a winner. It may well be off field things or attitudes rather than playing style? As always the coaches see much more than we do.
Agree Soopa, do we get somekind of fee (by offering a new deal), even if he does not sign it? A bit surprised we let Charlie Allen go, had something about him (pace & could finish), perhaps because we had too many lightweight players in our squad?
If I owned a league1 club I would be signing Dani Van Den Heuvel, Charlie Allen, Lewis Bates, Morton Spencer. All 3 have the ability to play now in league1. Bates is extremely comfortable already at level, while Allen would settle after 10 to 15 games while Spencer has everything needed to be a solid DCM other then game time. Van den Heuvel is more the good enough.
Sure I saw him play for our u21s v Luton at St Albans a couple of months ago and he was the best player on the pitch.... be great if he could get a chance next season like Kalvin and Archie.
Alternatively, we could pay 5/10m for players from abroad who are bang average and haven't got a clue about the Championship....
How many academy players have come through our system into the first team over the years?
Everyone always says you only need one(?) from each year to make it worthwhile....
I'd love to know our figures as we're highly thought of as a club that brings through youngsters.
We all know Kalvin did but it's all very well bringing them right through our system only to be sold after a great first season!
This could happen to Archie for instance. Yes, we'll get a good fee but does a club like ours really need the money that badly when a local youngster brings real interest to the club?
Howson did well and Mowatt to a point. Byram has done well overall. Lennon and Milner had to be sold straight away. Jack Clarke was sold after one good season. Smith did well for us. Tom Lees to an extent and McPhail....
I've missed out loads and these are only off the top of my head, but who has given us great service after coming through the academy!?
If we went back 25 years has someone got any stats on who came through and for how long?
Is the Academy system worth it in the end!? Probably a hypothetical question as it's tradition but a club like ours shouldn't be selling on.... we should be nicking them from the smaller clubs!
I know we keep bringing youngsters in from Scotland /Ireland etc but how many go on to make it?
Geldhart and Greenwood were going to be the next big thing but haven't pushed on....
I know it's our dodgy owners' fault as they've just wanted a quick buck or to balance the fkn books!
Sadly our academy is relatively better than our club - it's well inside the top 20 in the country when our first team is second tier - the result will always be that our best products are cashed in - not just for the club's benefit but for the benefit of the young player.
It's definitely worth it though, not just for the cash but also to keep attracting the next great young players and keeping the reputation of the club high.
If we ever get back to being top 10 in the EPL then we'll keep these products for ourselves.
The secret is getting our income streams stable by growing ER, that'll give us the opportunity to grow organically inside FFP - be sustainable - and get to that better place. You might have noticed that's becoming my biggest complaint.....
Gyabi is a really interesting one - he looked very poor compared to our other midfield options at Leeds, but then at Plymouth played further up the field and looked much better.
Gyabi was or is classed as a first team squad member. He is going to need another loan, somewhere he can get 38 games. Think he will one the bloom around 23 once he get 100 games under his belt.
Well our boys have been poor in the league since making the cup final. Not poor in overall game play but 10 or so team wide lapses in concentration, per game resulting in loses. Let's hope they are fully focused for this one.
I'll be watching - it's good for the future that we have these guys getting the exposure and the high level competition - if 1 or 2 become the next Kalvin Phillips then we win long term and the academy is funded for years.
Jacob Howard is the name of the 14 year old. just got a text. Also the training is part of a youth up training policy the club have implemented. Means that there is core group of talented boys 14, 15, 16 who will continually rotate between the 16, 18 and 21's side to up skill and develop according the text I got.
bb, it was a excellent game to watch. Some players looked good as well. Crew went about the game in silent manner but had a foot in everything. Chadwick-Chaplin looks to get better and McFadden is a skilful player.
It wasn't a bad game and quite end to end without having a real spark as the final ball and end product weren't there....
We had more possession than my home town team and looked more comfortable on the ball. Luton looked more dangerous in the 2nd half with the better chances but I think that was because we were 2 oop and already through....
2 goals in as many minutes just before half time killed the game off. I was looking forward to seeing Sonny Perkins who had a few nice touches and finished off a good move with a well taken goal, but in reality, didn't do enough. My West Ham mates were gutted when he left them for us but he hasn't stepped up.
Charlie Allen looked good and was our best player, albeit without much competition, and caused Luton their only trouble but I don't know if he will come through into our 1st team.... this is only based on tonight though.
From this showing, it doesn't look like anyone will come through this academy age group however much some will say they are wonderkid superstars!
I didn't know we were already through which may, in part, seem that we weren't totally up for it and there was just "something missing"....
There was a great crowd of 500 of which I'd say 70% were in Leeds colours! 👍👏
I think all the best u21s have been promoted to the first team or are out on loan, or have been released/sold apart from the sole exception of Charlie Allen. I've heard good things about Thomas but not seen it myself.
Don't want to do arsenal or Borehamwood a disservice Mouseman but I phoned the Borehamwood ticket office and tickets are FREE for all arsenal u21s games inc for Leeds fans tonight....
I can't fkn go now! 🤬
Our u21s are also playing Luton on Monday at St Albans Fc....
Goalkeeper Rory Mahady was the hero for Leeds United Under-18s as Rob Etherington’s side edged past Sheffield United Under-18s on penalties, at Bramall Lane.
Mahady made two stunning saves in the shootout, helping the Whites to set up a blockbuster home quarter-final against Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup.
Too early to say who can make the step up as only Allen and Thomas look good enough in the U21s
Mahaday, Crew, Cresswell, Lopata-White, McFadden and McDonald have more than a chance if they keep their heads screwed on and don't suffer major injuries
Someone needs to explain why Joseph, Gelthardt, Cresswell and McGurk did not play in the U21's game. Yes, I am aware that it is U21's and some of the above a 21 but the rules stat they had to be 21 at the star so they could have played. Surely 90 minutes of football is better then just training...
I agree with that Dan - if the system is working well 18/19 year old players are either breaking through for the first team squad or they are probably going to miss the bus. Only a couple from each intake will make it.
I think if a player has stalled by the age of 20 that tells you what you need to know about their future, no point clogging an U21 slot with 20/21 year olds
Joseph, Gephardt and Cresswell didn't play because Farke keeps the First team squad separate from the u21s. It's that simple. Biesla blurred the squads and the coaching staff by having them train together and using the u21s to bolster his 18 man squad but that's not the current operation.
As for McGurk, no idea. But he's nowhere near getting promoted to the first team squad. Though, apart from Charlie Allen, is anybody?
If I owned a league 1 club in the top 8 I buy both. I ensure Hjelde plays CB, and I play Bates as a 8. I have a buy-out clause as believe if played consistently over the next 20 month they will end up at a decent level. They just needs real game time.
I would also try and get Allen and McGurk as well.
Actually it was very similar to first team except we created the chances from the wings, from the middle, and from deep. Also the left back Ferguson looked dangerous going foward.
I can see Geldhart, Bate, Gyabi and McGurk + a few others leaving on loan to a L1/L2 side.
Not sure I agree with Dan as most players we let go do nothing. Davis went to L1 when we were in the Prem. Huggins the same. Greenwood is doing OK but it is not yet half a season. Perkins cannot get a game for Oxford and Bate did not excel there last year.
Kids can look good v kids, making the step up is more difficult.
Hjelde has hid his chance at LB for 3 games and looked lost, Gyabi got a game and looked lost, Joffy looks lost. LUFC cannot play them for their devlpmnet and lose games
All clubs make mistakes, Chelsea had Salah and De Bruyne on their books as kids and Lakuka, Man U had Pogba before paying £93million to bring him back and I culd go on.
I am not sure which one of the kids we have let go in the last 4/5 years have done so well the top 8 Prem clubs are hunting them.
Here is the perfect example of why the young players at Leeds united are looking to leave the club as soon as they turn 18.
The club is playing in a competition where kids can be exposed to higher level games yet because they may (5% chance) be around the first team for weekend they are not allowed to play. It is a under21's league meaning that Cresswell, Joseph and Gelthardt are able to play but do not get the chance. They are instead made to watch both this and possibly the first team games from the stands.
The average successful career in professional football is 11 years - there are only 11 starting spots in a team, so on average across the long term there can only be 1 academy product from each intake who makes it through.
All the youth players we have given their chance came from somewhere - just like Finlay Gorman will count as a Man City youth product if he succeeds.
In our first team you can't discount all the guys you list - they are legitimate youth developments at Leeds. I do agree on Gnonto/Rutter not being a youth products.
We have given first team debuts, chances and time to Gelhardt, Greenwood, Gray, Meslier, Struijk, Drameh, Davis, Bate, Joseph, Perkins, Cresswell, Summerville in the last few years and I bet I've missed a hatful!
Our academy is better than most so we also provide young players who have successful careers elsewhere too. I believe some of the players you are so frustrated about will have good careers but not at Leeds because they didn't quite make it.
Edmonson, McKinstry, McAlmont, Kenneh, Huffer, Caprile, Drameh to name just a handful.
We still don't klnow how it'll work out for the likes of Pirie, Miller, Mullen, Spencer, Moore, McGurk etc etc
Dan not sure where you get you info from but mine suggest the kids 16-18 want to stay at LUFC cos they can see a pathway to the first team. e.g The younger Gray and younger Cresswell + the 2 Scots kids
The 1st one has had ties with the academy since Kewells days in it And still does.
Second is a free lance scout who regularly is scouting players between 13 and 18 for European and premier league clubs. He earn his money only by actually being at clubs youth games. He follows leeds closure the others as that is where is ex wife and kids live city wise.
I was raving about Gyabi pre season but he just simply hasn't done enough to get in our squad....
However, Joseph looks quality and I'd definitely have him before Geldhart and maybe even Bamford.... never going to happen and just hope he doesn't leave us in the summer.
He needs a loan to a Championship club in January to see what he can do....
Do not forget his parent received enough money to buy a new house and basically be set for the next 20 years to help him with his decision.
Also something besides money that would have helped him make his mind up is the fact that there are strong rumours that De Bryner like to spead time weekly with young players in his position. Given Finley's style is similar this would have sealed any deal.
Me too, I don't begrudge Skubs taking the post, he's too good an up and coming manager not to get the chance. I wish him the best and plenty of success.
He did not play Klaesson whe could have so doubt he take him on loan but think it would the best move for both clubs.
Could see him try and loan Bates and Gyabi. Imagine the both getting l9nger deals with us and spending the next 12 month playing every game in men's football.
For those that care about the next generation of academy talents come through, I have a mind boggling stat's for you to think about.
Since the signing of Scotland young 16 year old talented striker Lewis Pirie in the summer our home grown boys have lifted to try prove they are better.
Stat's this season.
Leyton Brown, 16 , ST - 4 goal in 6 games.
Lewis Pirie, 16, ST - 3 goals, 1 assist in 5 games.
Harvey Vincent, 16, M - 3 goals, 2 assists in 7 games.
Josh McDonald, 16, W/F - 3 goals in 7 games.
Finley Gorman, 15, AM - 2 goals, 1 assist in 5 games.
Harry Grey, 14/15, attack - 2 goals in 2 games.
Then you have left back 17 year old Coban Bird looking a lethal overlapping full back and Reuben Lopata- White looking as a deep play maker from CB and the twin DCM of Rhys Chadwick-Chaplin & Daniel Toulson acting like dogs chasing a bone and not wanting other to touch it.
This side has some serious talent....
We forget that both Archie Grey and Charlie Crewe are both 17 year old CM talents. Plus CB James Debayo just turned 18. Then you have 15 year old CB Alfie Cresswell.
There are also strong chatter about kid call Luke Matykiewicz who has talent but need playing time. And 15 year old midfielder Jack Morris.
Appentley the youth coaches have been using what they learnt from watching Biesla for the last 36 month and most of these kids coming through have benefited from it.
It funny how a manager starts playing Sam Greenwood as a striker/ inside winger and starts looking like a real player again. Yet our club buts him and tries to make him into a midfielder...
I thought he'd gone on loan but he signed permanently for an undisclosed fee.... clubs are looking at him for January and we do have a percentage on any transfer.
He's highly thought of and a natural goalscorer will always be wanted.....
He has 7 in 22apps but that includes loads of sub apps early on.... maybe we should buy him back! 🙈🤣
Joseph, 2 games = 2 goals. Also this season he is playing more as a traditional English number 9 target/hold up man. He also looks like he spent the summer in the gym.
Andros Townsend played on trial for Luton.... still a good player if he could keep fit.
I'm sure I saw him play on loan for us v Arsenal in the FA Cup when Henry scored the winner for them.... think it was also the same night Keown got hit by the ball when the Leeds players were trying to hit him during his interview! 🙈🤣
Fkn stupid decision to put the pundits in front of our fans who drowned it out with bad language and they had to move away from us.... 🙈🤣
Just asking as if you watch you will see that person standing like a immoveable object almost like a sental watching each players taking notes of every movement.
The other European sides in this group include reigning champs PSV Eindhoven, Hertha Berlin and Sparta Prague.
Great experience for the squad - very strong starting lineup and looked very good. McGurk continues to look great - interesting seeing him play up alongside Bate.
Allen played really well, really liked Monteiro as the distributing CB
We lost 3 to 2 in the U21's against Reading. Our extremely talent (not) manager decision to play Charlie Allen as a striker was ummm interesting to say the least.
Can our club explain why players like Hjelde, Cresswell, Joseph are not playing full games for U21's given they are only 50% chance of seeing the first team game day squad. Surely playing some football is better then training only.
Little wonder Dremah, Perkins, wanted loans and why previous players like Caprile, Bogusz also wanted out. Not playing is hindering the development.
Allen playing as a striker was interesting. I said at the start of the season that I believe had he not been injured before Farke started he would have seen first team squad time as a 10.
It's remarkable how the patterns of play replicate the first team.
We utterly dominate the second half in territory and possession, without really taking advantage, just one goal to show for it - just to keep everyone on edge.. and then right close to the end of the game we get onto our hands and knees, pull our own pants down and wait for the opposition to use our butt cheeks as a bicycle stand.
We're only ahead as we get to full time because Colchester have fluffed 3 good break chances.
We take last season as a example prior to his promotion to the first team.
Did not play Klaesson in goal even though was able to.
Prior to his loan out did not play Hjelde.
Alienated Amari Miller and rumoured that it was agent who went to club to find out why and only then did he get a little look in.
Ben Andreucci chose to go to Boltan instead of playing under him.
Then there is the fact that in his last 12 games prior to moving to the first team last season he had lost 7 of them. (I can't remember if that exactly that number but believe it was)
I think you're being somewhat unfair with those examples. Klaesson was in the first team squad so not available unless Marsch asked for him to play. Hjelde had also been promoted to the first team before being loaned. Andreucci played in the u18 team so also not available. No idea what has happened to Miller, could be fitness, could be injuries, could be attitude, could be stagnation, but he wasn't performing as well as McGurk. I should also add Gallardo was u21 manager for half of last year.
Joseph scored for Spain’s U21 yesterday in their 2-1 win. Good for him; may he just make it a habit, beginning with Swansea!
Chambers debuted for Scotland u 19s and has received rave reviews.
Hope to see more of him in our first team soon.
On lutv now away to Nottingham forest from Loughborough uni
Luca Thomas scores on his loan debut for York

On the u21's.
Here is a question.

4-1 drubbingby Wolves tonight, Thomas scored again waas a plus.
👍👏
Sure I saw him play for our u21s v Luton at St Albans a couple of months ago and he was the best player on the pitch.... be great if he could get a chance next season like Kalvin and Archie.
Alternatively, we could pay 5/10m for players from abroad who are bang average and haven't got a clue about the Championship....
A truly rare occurrence.
A full International cap before a league debut..... Charlie Crew!
Charlie Crew will be next. Maybe Gyabi.

I know it's our dodgy owners' fault as they've just wanted a quick buck or to balance the fkn books!
So I am hearing that the club will be allowing almost all the u21's to leave.
Before ask C.Crewe count s as a u18's so he stays.
Charlie Crew got called up to the senior Wales team
Someone at the club must explain why we had that terrible kit on instead of the white kit.
Also, would say that this was not our best game. Our boys did not play well or at least anywhere near their best.
Good lesson for them. Hopefully they will come out stronger from this.
Great support by us in the crowd as usual and 3 down and constant singing by our sizeable contingent.... can't hear citeh fans!
3 down in 75th minute....
Citeh look far more comfortable on the ball and we can't defend set pieces.... at least even our academy teams shadow the 1st team style of play! 😜🙈🤣
Good luck for our boys in the u18 Cup final tonight v Citeh.... we're big underdogs apparently!
It's on FA Player, FA Cup YouTube, TikTok, Twitter and a couple of others.... 7pm ko
Our u18's beat derby 5 nil. Young HarryG got 2.
Luca Thomas looks some prospect. He has clearly modelled his game on Bamford.
Doing well 3-0 b derby
10,493 brave souls in attendance

Good man.
Our 18's are playing today again. This time our squad has 2 15 year olds in it and few who just turned 16.
Leeds United U18 3 (Chadwick 34’, 70’; Lane 53’)

Great win for the boys now into the semis for first time since 1998
Leeds u18s v Liverpool tonight in FA Youth Cup quarter final at 7pm on FA Player....
Wonder if Archie will play to get some gametime.... 😲🤔😜
Sean McGurk has 2 goals in 4 games since he left us to play in League 2. Good start to life in the league and looks comfortable.
Loads of U21s out of contact this summer and loads of 16-18 year olds in or the U21s
Ones to watch ae Thomas, Cresswell, Gray and Crew
The younger bothers of course.
Monteiro may come through, and Sutcliffe, Coleman and Snowdon but if we are in the Prem?
Perkins is an engma. He should be in the first team squad but is not near. Not sure why?
Leeds: Christy (GK) (C), Richards (Cline 62’), Sutcliffe, Coleman (Moore 67’, Debayo 84’), Cresswell, Monteiro, Snowdon (Toulson 62’), Crew, Perkins, McFadden, Thomas. Subs not used: Grainger
Lost 0-2 to Chelsea U-21s and Allen has gone on loan to York. Contract up in the summer so needs to find another club.
Victory against Bornemouth. It doesn't get better than this.
Yep free tea
It wasn't a bad game and quite end to end without having a real spark as the final ball and end product weren't there....

Leeds United U18s 1* (Wilson 60’)
*Leeds United U18s win 5-4 on penalties.
Leeds: Mahaday (GK), Richards, Toulson (C), Crew (Pickles 83’), Cresswell, Lopata-White, Lane (Pirie 76’), Chadwick, Wilson, McFadden, McDonald. Subs not used: Grainger, Dudley, Billett, Simo, Morris.

No Allen or McGurk against Spurs.
We had at least 5 gilt edge chances to score plus a further 2 time we hit the post.
Playing spurs at the Stevenage borough ground 7pm Monday
Although I can only see it on the spurs site
I can see Geldhart, Bate, Gyabi and McGurk + a few others leaving on loan to a L1/L2 side.
Not sure I agree with Dan as most players we let go do nothing. Davis went to L1 when we were in the Prem. Huggins the same. Greenwood is doing OK but it is not yet half a season. Perkins cannot get a game for Oxford and Bate did not excel there last year.

u21 play Sparta Prague tonight,Just kicked off but not on LUTV.
No Matteo Joseph in the squad,DF hinted he might be involved v Blackburn
Get McGurk, Gyabi, Joseph off to Lincoln on loan with Skubala....
So our u18's manager is stepping up to become the U21's manager.
What other think? Should the club have gone looking for another manager?
big clubs raiding our academy again ffs.
For those that care about the next generation of academy talents come through, I have a mind boggling stat's for you to think about.

Greenwood won a penalty and scored as well for Boro v Plymouth on Saturday.
3 goals in 11 so far for him
u23s 3-0 down at HT v Palace
Max Dean has scored 4 goals in his last 4 app on loan to MK Dons.... 👍👏
3-1 FT Carole, Bate & Joseph with the goals
Leeds 3 up--😁
Leeds 2 up v Berlin
Should be on lutv
There was some pretty passing through the midfield. Also movement of the players was better then in the previous games.
4-1 Bate rounds the gk and slots it home
d'oh - missed this, will tune in
3-1 McGurk with a free kick from the wing that misses everyone and finds the bottom corner
2-1 Luca Thomas with a nice assist from McGurk.
1-1
1-0 Charlie Allen after 3 mins with a tidy finish
U21 play Luton at Lner stadium Friday night it may be on lutv as no premier league game is on
Who is/was the coach who stands beside Skubala on the touchline for this game?
Cheers Soopa.... we are champions, champions of Europe
Game over. Comprehensive European victory
Leeds 2-0 OGC Nice
The other European sides in this group include reigning champs PSV Eindhoven, Hertha Berlin and Sparta Prague.
Great experience for the squad - very strong starting lineup and looked very good. McGurk continues to look great - interesting seeing him play up alongside Bate.
Allen played really well, really liked Monteiro as the distributing CB
Leeds 2-0 Nice
McGurk cool finish - totally dominant.
Nice break down the right, great cross.
Get inn
well deserved goal at last!!!
71 mins Leeds 1- 0 Nice (Allen)

No issues with team strength: Bate, McGurk, Allen, Crew, Gyabi, Hjelde, Mullen......
Monteiro looking like the string puller at the back
On LUTV now
We lost 3 to 2 in the U21's against Reading.
Just seen that our U17s beat Sunderland 9-1, yesterday. Lewis Pirie got three, and Harry Gray (Archie's brother!) got two goals.
3-2 is a win I suppose.
Cheers Soopa and keep us updated....
How poor is it when there is no information on the game or starting X1s even on our OS, Twitter or our u21s Twitter!!
Tonight home to Colchester U21's
Live on LUTV now - strong team out including Gyabi and Bate.
Early shock going 0-1 down after 2 mins, but Gyabi playing 10 has just equalised - worth a watch
Interesting if you go even further down the age groups....
Finlay Gorman (14 years old) - appeared on a ballers website, now apparently in a tug of war between the two Manchester Clubs.
